Sport Fishing Vacation

Each year, hundreds of sporting events are held all over the world for fishing enthusiasts, doling out thousands of dollars in prize money. But for most participants it is the thrill of the hunt and not the prize money that makes a sports fishing vacation appealing.

A vacation dedicated to fishing, although a popular idea would not seem like the best way to spend time with family and friends. This is because fishing is a solitary activity that requires long hours of patience and silence and is best done in little company. However, sports’ fishing is entirely different since it’s a competition that attracts a lot of people. Sports fishing or trophy fishing first became popular in England as a royal past time and since then has spread to every corner of the world. Unlike the medieval times however, sports fishing is far more human these days and most events end with the fish being weighed, measured and released. Few events are cruel enough to kill the fish, gut it and place it on a plaque to serve as a trophy and most that do so, do it illegally.

Many tour operators arrange vacation packages that take travelers to fishing competitions over a wide range of destinations. The visited locales include everything from fly-fishing in British Columbia to deep-sea fishing in the Great Barrier Reef. The sports fishing activities can last from a couple of hours to a number of days, although the actual vacation usually runs much longer. The general mode of planning is to visit a location at a time when a variety of fishing events are being held in different places and for different levels of experiences. These packages generally include the supply of fishing rods and baits that are suited to the area’s fishing requirements. The arrangements for rental boats, dinghies and other water vessels to carry travelers to the fishing grounds are also made. Before leaving on a sports fishing vacation, travelers must ensure that the tour operator has given them exactly what was promised.
